In the cosplay community, everyone has their own story about how they started, but one thing that comes up more often than not is how open & accepting the North Texas area is to new comers. And that’s exactly what happened with Oh My Sophii. She was convinced by a friend to wear a costume to A-Kon for the first time & found that everyone she met was incredibly supportive & welcoming to her. From there, she was hooked! She started doing it more, both back home in Wichita & here in Dallas, until she finally turned it into something bigger about three years ago.

Now, Sophii has hit the ground running! She has a team working with her to cover her photography & videography, she runs her complete social media management efforts, attends events to promote her cosplay work, & she started her own social media marketing company, OhMy - Social Media Marketing, where she can teach other creators how to successfully manage their own social media presence. If that wasn’t enough, she has even started to run her own solo photoshoots, where she acts as subject, photographer, & editor. She represents the newest trend in the cosplay community: the cosplay entrepreneur.

Like Jessica Nigri or Yaya Han, she has created a business around her cosplay that expands beyond her cosplay. In the case of her social media marketing classes, it makes total sense that she would be perfectly positioned to run that type of business. As a cosplayer, her online popularity is mostly dependent on her ability to understand the constantly shifting algorithms of all major platforms, as well as understand consumer trends & behavior in order to tailor her own content to fit what’s popular. For her cosplay, she doesn’t have a specific product or service; she is the product. So, unlike an iPhone, she can’t release a new model every year with new features. She has to understand what people want & how to deliver that in a way that both consistently reaches them & keeps them interested. With her tens of thousands of followers all around the internet, she definitely seems to have done something right.

However, more important than any algorithm or marketing strategy, what makes her so popular & loved by her fans is, well…her! When she talks to her fans, she is open & sweet. She doesn’t just act like she cares about them; she makes it clear that she genuinely does. When we spoke to her at this year’s Dallas Fan Days, there was no question about why she’s earned each & every follower she has. If you haven’t heard of her until now, we highly recommend that you check her work out. You won’t regret it!
