Is Back to The Future Secretly Awful?

So…Mike may actually kill me for this title…but it’s NOT stopping me!!! Today we’re talking about the Robert Zemeckis classic & maybe Mike favorite film of all time: Back to the Future! This is a movie that has been endlessly praised as an all-time classic piece of cinema. It so thoroughly defined the time travel genre of Sci-Fi, that it has become the go-to reference for commentary, parodies, and endless knockoffs. It even got its own sub-plot in Avengers Endgame trying to explain that time travel is nothing like Back to the Future, while at the same time giving many positive nods to the movie in their plot.

However, along with all the praise, it has recently begun to come under fire for some of its more questionable plot points that glossed over more controversial problems with harassment, assault, and race. So, the question we must look into today is…is this movie actually good or does our nostalgia tend to blind us all to the reality of an average movie with questionable ethics? And most importantly of all…will Mike find a way to reach through his camera AND the internet to strangle me for even asking the question?
