Our Exclusive Interview with Gigi & Jake Edgley
We were at the Galactic Swag Expo the other weekend &, as it so often happens, we were talking to everyone we came across & somehow stumbled into a conversation with the wonderful Gigi Edgley. For those of you non-sci-fi fans out there, Gigi is best known for her role as Chiana, the strong-willed, grey skinned, alien from the early 2000’s show Farscape. Our conversation with her went so well, in fact, that we actually walked away with the offer to do a Skype interview with her & her brother, Jake, about their upcoming musical tour. To be completely honest, we’re not entirely sure how that happened (it was all a bit of a blur), so we’ll just say it was a right place, right time kind of thing! Fast forward to this past Wednesday & Mike had the incredible opportunity to run the Skype call with this multi-talented sibling duo.
As it happens, this isn’t the first time these two have gone on the road together. Gigi began her acting experience in musical theater & Jake has always been the musician of the family. So, when Gigi decided that her normal acting roles weren’t quite enough to satisfy her anymore, it was Jake that helped her rediscover her musical roots. This eventually turned into the first Wanderland Tour last year, which started as an open offer to perform anywhere they could: bars, backyards, comic conventions, and more. As part of their desire to be part of the local art scenes wherever they went, they incorporated other local acts into their performances. Sometimes they would have a single trumpet player come on stage with them & other times, they would find themselves sharing a stage with a fire spinner or burlesque dancers. As an audience member, you never really knew what to expect until you showed up. That was all part of the experience that Gigi & Jake wanted to give to their fans. There was so much excitement & energy involved with their first tour, that a second one was practically inevitable!
What’s more, to keep with the tradition set last year, this year’s tour will again end in Atlanta at Dragon Con, August 29th - September 2nd. They had such a warm & incredible experience last year, that, as they told us, it was exactly the way they wanted to end it again this year. Wanderland is a unique musical experience that we cannot emphasis enough how much it needs to be experienced live & in person! You can get a taste of their musical stylings on YouTube, but if you get the chance go to one of their concerts, you should absolutely do so!
